For any students that are coming to America, you can look forward to Prom. It is pretty great. I went with a boy from China and had a great time.
Here are somethings I learned from it:
For hair: an updo is the way to go! If you have it down by the end of the night its frizzy, knotted, messy, you look like you just survived a zombie apocalypse.
Dress: go long or go home. This is prom. There are few times in life you can wear a floor length dress... basically prom and you wedding. So go long you will be greatful.
Also for the dress if the bodice has rhinestones beware it cutting your arms. Beauty is pain.
Make up: it is allllll about the eyes! Blush, bronzer, eyeshadow, eyeliners, eyeliner, foundation, mascara, eyebrow liner, lipstick.
Date: go with someone you are comfortable dancing with, boy should buy the tickets, dinner, and corsage,
You should offer to pay half though!!!!
And plan your colors ahead of time!
Also ask your date if he is buying you a corsage and if you should get a boutonniere.
Don't have a date?: NO PROBLEM! Most schools allow you to even take another girl. So grab a girl friend and go together! You will have to split the cost more likely but you also get out of awkward boy girl dancing, and feeling pressure to "go home" with your date.
Shoes: ladies, this one can be a give or take. I wore rhinestone sandals. No regrets. My date was taller than me but I did not feel like pushing it. They are 100% more comfy! Still cute. You can actually dance in them! Less risk of tripping.
Jewelery: make a statement. Wear something big enough to be seen clearly in photos, or don't wear any! But I see allot of girls wearing small or thin jewelry making photos look distracting, unclean, confusing to the eye. Another solution is having a very sparkly dress which calls for no necklace BUT I still say wear a big statement earring. If your hair is up like I suggest it looks put together.
Fake nails: nothing makes you feel more pretty and in style than fake nails. I bought mine for $6 at the store and used my own nail polish and put them on myself. They were soooo cute! Not perfect but it beats spending $30 to have a professional do them! But a girls! If you have never worn fake nails be prepared to be uncomfortable and unable to do a simple task like buckle your sandals! So put them on only about and hour before you put on your dress then paint them. Also, keep the glue with you in a Ziploc bag in your clutch purse. I broke a nail in the limo and was so bummed!
Purse: I suggest a simple clutch purse to keep some money, your coverup/ mirror, lipstick, nail glue, and your phone.
Pictures: besides your group looking for a friend of family member with a back round in photography, take your phone and insist on also taking some pictures on it. I did not take any pictures myself and regretted it because I had to rely on everyone else to tag or send them to me.
And finally: WHEN YOU GET HOME, NO MATTER HOW LATE YOU GET HOME WASH YOUR FACE!!!
HAVE FUN
BE SAFE
DO NOT BE STUPID
